Sustantiva
The identity of new journalism
Sustantiva is an alternative media created by three young female journalists that explores other ways of doing journalism.
Sustantiva was created with the idea of generating a collaborative space that questions the patriarchal practices of the media that reproduce violence in their speeches and identify themselves as part of a network that understands that tending bridges is the way to build political journalism as a service to the community.
«No hay revoluciones tempranas, crecen desde el pie»
During the exploration phase I was inspired by a phrase from a song by Alfredo Zitarrosa that says “there are no early revolutions, they grow from the foot”.
With this in mind, I experimented with different ways of writing the letter S starting the figure from the bottom. From a long series of versions came the isotype of Sustantiva.
Made by women
Three journalists, one designer, eight typographers.
The plurality of female voices of the project is visible in the animated isotype, with open source typefaces created by eight women: Sol Matas (Abhaya), Veronika Burian (Abril), Karolina Lach (Amarete), Viktoria Grabowske (Arbutus), Juliette Duhé (Compagnon), Julia Petretta (Lily), Vika Usmanova (Mon Trappist) and Yvonne Schüttler (Poller).
Substantiva is horizontal
In the construction of the logotype, the shape had to be consistent with the brand’s values: horizontality, openness, humanity.
